Classical, Western and Gaited Dressage
About AVDAAVDA was founded in 2007. Our mission: to serve those interested in the sport of dressage and/or gaining knowledge in the training of other disciplines. We are dedicated to the principles of dressage that come from centuries of knowledge, all the way up to present day revelations. AVDA is a very diverse dressage club ranging in ages from 15 to 90. Our horses are just as diverse consisting of Thoroughbreds, Quarter Horses, Arabians, Fresians, Warmbloods, Gaited breeds, Paints, Haflingers and more. Our current members practice other discipline, cowboy dressage, reining, jumping, team penning, trail trials, long lining, and Parelli methods. AVDA is a chapter of the Rocky Mountain Dressage Society (RMDS). As an AVDA member you will automatically become a participating member of USDF, receive the USDF's monthly magazine called "Connection" and the RMDS publication "The Centaur". You will also receive a hardback folder to keep your current years information of shows and tests, which you will receive annually. "It has been a rewarding experience to participate in AVDA and to meet such wonderful people. I am pleased to except the volunteer of the year award.for 2016.
When I was a little girl I was given the nickname "horse" by a dear uncle and I have been trying to be one or near one ever since. There were times while in the military when owning a horse was not practical so I would find a riding stable and lease out the "go" horse. A few years were filled by running, or cycling but the true desire to ride lead me back time and again to have a horse in the yard.
A gift horse, two in fact, were given to me and that enlightened me to what I didn't know about horses, they and my current mustang have kept me seeking for the connection both physically and intuitively.
Being able to be with dynamic horse people who are on this journey of dressage,whether western or classical has kept me lively searching to continue to learn more of how to live up to my nickname, horse." -Renee

Sandy was instrumental in her work at meetings and during shows. Here's what she had to say about winning Volunteer of the Year:
Thank you all for considering me as your volunteer of the year! It is truly an honor.
I had a passion for horses as long as I can remember. I grew up in Pueblo, and when I was little, I had imaginary horses, and I named myself "Pony Winners". I set up jumps in the back yard using lawn chairs and my dad's rakes and brooms from the garage.
When I was 35, I empowered myself and started riding. I took dressage lessons from Annie Bulkley, Mary Rose, Sue Curry, Sue Halaz, and latter learned to jump from Liz Jensen Olds .I learned natural horsemanship, roping, and moving cattle from Amy LaSatz. I bought Molly, a black velvet coated appendix mare. She won a few ribbons with me in hunter, dressage, and western riding. She was a most wonderful and versatile horse.
I have owned 6 horses over the last 30 years. I rescued a beautiful old quarter horse off the dude string. I owned a paint for a short while, and my last horse was the Azteca, Aguacero.
I feel so fortunate to have owned and known these great animals. Connecting with the universe through horses has been one of my greatest joys in life. AVDA has provided me opportunities through new friendships with both people and horses. I feel lucky to be part of the group.
